Community Open Houses
March 11-12, 2026
Two Community Open House events were held: March 11th at the Los Alamos County Municipal Building and March 12th at the White Rock Branch Library.

What is Plan Los Alamos?
Plan Los Alamos is the 2026 update to Los Alamos County’s comprehensive plan and will provide the county with a renewed vision for the coming decade. It will be developed through a community-driven process that runs throughout 2026 and will be the first significant update to the county’s comprehensive plan since 2016.
To ensure that Plan Los Alamos can be implemented, it will include the following critical components:
A decision-making framework based on the community’s core values and planning principles
A set of priorities and goals for focused attention by public and private sector partners
Guidance on “where and how to grow” that will inform updates to the development code, infrastructure planning, and other development tools
Integration of previous planning efforts under a coherent planning umbrella
Implementable strategies that will help the community work towards specific outcomes
A community-wide process
Development of Plan Los Alamos is being informed by the community in several ways. A Steering Committee of county residents is helping to guide the plan, as is a Technical Advisory Committee of County staff. Broader public input is being gathered through the following:
Stakeholder Interviews
Stakeholder interviews are being performed based on lists of individuals and organizations generated by the Steering Committee
Community Survey
An online community survey during March will seek broad public input on questions that will shape the plan and its decision-making framework
Public Workshops
Public workshops and open houses will be held in March, June, and August to present findings, solicit feedback, and identify core issues
Open Comments
Throughout the planning process, PlanLosAlamos.org will provide opportunities to submit questions and comments to the planning team
Timeline
The Plan Los Alamos process began in January 2026 and will feature three overlapping phases of work. That work will culminate in November and December 2026, when the plan will be ready for review by the Los Alamos County Planning and Zoning Commission and the County Council.
